If you prefer the natural greens than the concrete jungle, Swissotel Nai Lert Park offers an alternative to high rise accommodation in this bustling city. Surrounded within a tropical garden setting, this luxurious resort-style hotel has one of the biggest garden pool in Bangkok, along with an indoor squat court and outdoor tennis court. While this 5-star international brand is highly recognized across the globe, the service level of Nai Lerk Park was disappointing, even though the room and facilities did make a good impression.
Swissotel Nai Lert Park Overall Rating
Furnishing and Facilities: 4.5/5
Room Type: Swissotel Business Executive (36-42sqm)
Average Price: SGD140++
During my Bangkok trip on April this year, I took up the free upgrade promotion that was costing around SGD80 per night. It was supposedly to be an upgrade to Business Advantage from the basic tier Classic room. Later then I found out it was an Business Executive room, 2 categories above from the Classic room.
The neutral colour palette of soft browns and beige, along with excellent natural lighting have made this spacious room looks very comfortable to relax in. All the rooms in Nai Lert Park come with complimentary wireless internet access and a privacy balcony facing either the garden or city view. The view from my room was the garden view facing the hotel pool.
Besides the better looking furnishing and furniture, the Swiss Business Executive room is also equipped with a coffee machine. There were many types of coffee capsule to choose from.
The toilet is quite decent. It is neither too big nor too compact but it comes with the typical shower head (my favourite is always the rainforest shower head). Unfortunately, the Purovel shower amenities, which are in-house brand, are nothing much special. It does not have the refreshing smell or any fragrance.
Before the dusk, the housekeeping team will perform a turn-down service to replenish the amenities and set the room for the night. The lights were dimmed down and the king size bed were nicely made with a small fold at both side of the blanket. On each night desk, they have placed a small Toblerone chocolate bar along with a bottled water, and accessorize with an orchid flower. To promise a good night rest, each room in Swissotel has an a la carte pillow menu. There were 3 types of pillows to choose from:
1. Swiss Pine Pillow - release a light scent and reduce perspiration around the head and neck
2. Heat regulated cotton-covered spelt pillow - ease tension in the back and neck
3. Neck support pillow
I was pretty excited to try the Swiss Pine pillow on the first night. A few minutes after ringing the guest service, I was quite puzzled to see that the service staff came with empty hands. When I asked him for the pillow, he did not understand me. So I took the menu and pointed to him. He ended up returning an awkward smile and a confused look. He did not know what I wanted and what it was written on the pillow menu. While I was getting very impatient and tired, I still kept my calm and told him that it was alright and forget about it.
Besides this, there was another service discrepancy. When I was checking-in, the staff asked for my frequent flyer card number to receive miles from this booking. Weeks later, the mileage was not accorded into my account. The hotel addressed this issue, telling me that my booking was not qualify for mileage. I was given a false information at the beginning. To my dismay, the staff in Nai Lert Park do not have a good product knowledge. The service level was sub-standard, which I did not expect from this well-recognized international brand.
Even though the service was such a big disappointment, I have to say that the facilities and the room were definitely worth the price I have paid for. My friend and I had a difficult time to decide if we should spend more time using the facilities in the hotel or to rock the street.
Facilities in Swissotel Nai Lert Park
In their really, really-big topical garden, they have one of the biggest hotel pool in Bangkok, probably about the same size as the pool at W Singapore. If you prefer to stay dry, you can choose to laze on their sun lounger, spreading along the shades under the branches of the trees.
As you further explore the garden, you will find the Amrita Fitness & Health Centre, which is just a very short distance away from the pool. Besides using their fitness equipment, you can sign up for their aerobics and yoga sessions or have a small game at their outdoor tennis court or their indoor squash court.
Their sauna and steam room can be found in the washing area at the Amrita centre. If you like to add a little steam or heat in the sauna, there is a wooden bucket filled with water where you can take a few scoop and pour over the heated stones. When the sky darkened, the garden seemed to transform into a tribal village, where they set up fire sticks along the passage way.
Swissotel Nai Lert Park is a walking distance away from Ploenchit and Chidlom station. As the surroundings of the hotel estate are private apartment, it is quiet peaceful over there with little traffic noise. For a quick and decent meal outside the hotel, the Central Chidlom(shopping centre) host a premium food center and supermarket at very affordable price.
